![]() ![]() The Thermapen One is very similar to the Mk4, with a few improvements. The Thermapen One replaced the now-discontinued Thermapen Mk4, which was our long-time upgrade pick and a favorite of culinary pros. What makes the ThermoWorks Thermapen One worth a cool $105 plus shipping? Mainly, it’s the fastest instant-read thermometer we’ve ever tested. But there are also a couple small differences to the original ThermoPop that some people might appreciate: Unlike the ThermoPop 2, it has a dedicated button to switch from Fahrenheit to Celsius, and you can use a coin, rather than a small screwdriver, to open the battery housing on the back. And it did measure temperatures about a second slower in our tests, though that’s not a big enough difference to really notice in day-to-day use. It’s also not completely waterproof, just splashproof. The screen is a little smaller, reads only in whole degrees, and doesn’t rotate automatically (you have to press a button). For now, at around half the price of the ThermoPop 2, the original isn’t a bad choice if you don’t mind missing out on some of the newer model’s upgrades. A representative told us that the old model will eventually be phased out, but that the process will take a while. As of November 2022, the original ThermoPop is still available (for a lower price than it used to be) on ThermoWorks’ website.
